چکیده

A theoretical procedure has been developed with the aim of obtaining an accurate and rapid estimation of the degree of crystallisation in jarosite glasses by measuring the densities of the parent glass and, after the thermal treatment, of the glass-ceramic. Compositions were prepared by mixing jarosite waste with granite scraps and glass cullet, yielding three di€erent glass-batchs, melted at 1450 C, quenched and thermal treated to obtain glass-ceramics with di€erent degrees of crystallisation. Density measurements were carried out by means of a helium displacement pycnometer. The results were compared with the degree of crystallisation as evaluated by XRD and showed a good agreement. The method is applicable if the variation of density connected to the phase transformation is suciently large. In the formation of pyroxene and magnetite phases, with large density variation compared to the parent glass, it is precise and easily applicable. # 1999 Elsevier Science Limited. Sinter-crystallisation in the diopside–albite system Part I. Formation of induced crystallisation porosity

The sinter-crystallisation was investigated in three model glasses (G1, G2 and G3) belonging to the diopside–albite system and forming between 30 and 60% diopside, respectively. The effect of bulk crystallisation on the sintering was studied by the addition of 0.7 wt.% Cr2O3 as nucleating agent to the G2 glass. The degree of sintering was evaluated by the variation of the apparent density while...

An investigation on Mechanical Properties of Apatite-Wollastonite-Diopside Glass-Ceramics Composites

Apatite-wollastonite (A-W)-phlogopite glass-ceramic is considered to be difficult to resorb, but often, it has been incorporated in particulate form to create new bioactive composites for potential maxillofacial applications. With various compositions, the present work has attempted to prepare apatite-wollastonite (A-W)-phlogopite glass ceramic composites, by applying sintering. Here, three-poi...

CRYSTALLIZATION AND SINTERABILITY BEHAVIOR OF BIORESORBABLE CaO-P2O5-Na2O-TiO2 GLASS CERAMICS FOR BONE REGENERATION APPLICATION

Abstract:Some types of glass and glass ceramics have a great potential for making bone tissue engineering scaffolds, drug carrier and bone cements as they can bond to host bone, stimulate bone cells toward osteogenesis, and resorb at the same time as the bone is repaired. Calcium phosphate glass ceramics have very attractive properties that allow them to use in bone tissue engineering. Calcium ...

Compressibility and Foaming behavior of steel slag/waste glass compositesby particle size distribution and foam agents

In present research, the foam glass-ceramic composites fabricated by window glass, steel slag and SiC, CaCO3 foaming agents were investigated by press–sintering method. The optimum sintering temperature was obtained at 1200°C with a 3-minutes holding time and 20°C/min heating rate. The optimum pressure level of 80 MPa for achieving the 70 % of relative density was selected. The effec...
